A pneumatic tire (1) comprises a carcass (6) composed of at least one ply having cords making an angle of 75 DEG - 90 DEG with the mid-circumferential place, the carcass having a naturally balanced configuration extending along one region of the carcass from the maximum width position (W) of the carcass to a bead portion (4), when the tire is inflated by a given internal pressure, the naturally balanced configuration being that formed by the carcass when the tire is inflated under an assumption that the carcass is not subjected to any restraint from a belt layer (7), and a theoretically balanced configuration extending along the remaining region of the carcass from the maximum width position of the carcass to the tread portion (2), the theoretically balanced configuration being that formed by the carcass when the tire is inflated by the given internal pressure and the carcass is not substantially subjected to any force other than the internal pressure and a reaction force produced from the belt layer. <IMAGE> |
