A method for producing a razor blade having two different superposed coatings, each coating consisting of a metal, metallic compd. and a silicon compd. or an alloy of either was devised. The first coating material functions to strengthen the cutting edge and reduce damage which occurs to the cutting edge during shaving, and to reduce corrosion. The second coating resists wear and protects against corrosion and is less susceptible to progressive wear during shaving than the first coating.
