The remote operated surgical instrument using a cryogenic medium has a temperature measuring system(21) for the part of the body in the operating zone, and being cooled. This includes a ring(25) which can be moved along a measuring scale(2) on a shouldered down part of the instrument body(1). This also supports a needle(23) which punctures the body at the operating zone. Between the needle and the ring is a tilting arm(21) which allows the needle to be adjusted parallel to a probe(11) forming a further extension of the part carrying the scale. The point of the needle carries a temperature sensor(22). The ring(25) carries a screw so that it may be clamped in position.
