<p>The image discriminator generates and stores digital image data. The data is stored in a store (2), and a selector (10) cyclically divides the data into two sets, one corresponding to the object and the other to the background. The data is integrated and averages by circuits (4, 5, 6) and the mean value is applied as a threshold to derive bi-level object and background data from the image data. The selector (10) divides the data into object and background data initially in accordance with predetermined background data and then in accordance with the threshold updated on successive cycles. The bi-level image from camera (1) is used via servo loop (17) to direct camera (1) at the object.</p> |
