<p>For better control of ripening and long term storage >=1 or all of the walls of the package are of corrugated cardboard incorporating layers of polyethylene up to a total of 0.03 - 0.3 mm. thick to give the wall(s) a permeability to O2 of 3,000 - 4,000 napprox.) cm3 per 645 cm2 (100 in2) per milli-inch per 24 hrs. at STP and to CO2 under identical conditions of 4,200 - 5,500 (approx.) cm3 per 645 cm2. Sealing strips of adhesive material have identical permeability due to identical polyethylene layers and partly absorbent spacers stabilise the internal humidity due to transpiration.</p> |
