A loom driving mechanism having at a side frame (1) a main drive unit (4) connected to a transmission shaft (10) mounted at one end in the side frame (1) and extending into the central area of the loom to a clutch box (11) so that power may be distributed from the centre of the loom outwards to a weft beat-up drive system with the advantage that power is transmitted and also cooperates with a transmission with the minimum lag between one side of the loom and the other. The transmission shaft also provides a drive from the centre outwards for the let-off and take-up motions.
