The aircraft control surface adjusting mechanism has a control valve adjustable by a linkage from a control column and regulating the surface adjusting ram. The control rod (14) from the column (10) is solidly coupled to the valve slide (32, 34, 36), and is supported from the valve housing (30) in both directions of movement by a spring (16) which can be manually over-ridden by the pilot. The two working chambers of the ram (50) are coupled together by a bypass pipe (58) with combined throttle and non-return valve (60).
