Process for conversion of black oils (end b.pt. >1050 degrees F) comprises (a) introducing the feed at an intermediate point to a fractionator and removing from the fractionator on overhead gasoline stream, an intermediate heavy distillate stream and a bottoms stream; (b) possing the heavy distillate stream through a first thermal cracking coil (I) and a reaction chamber for cracking; (c) passing the bottom stream through a second thermal cracking coil (II) and a coking chamber; (d) sepg. the vapours from the coking chamber and mixing them with the effluent from the reaction chamber of step (b); and (e) introducing the mixt. to the fractionator at a point below that through which the black oil feeds is introduced. Specifically, (I) is operated at 900-1000 degrees F and 250-500 psig. and (II) at 975-950 degrees F and 15-100 psig. Total conversion to gas, gasoline and specialty coke is achieved without overloading the coke chamber with vapours. Smaller dia. coke chambers and/or lower pressure coke chambers may be used.
|
