The composition based on liquid nematic crystals exhibits a positive dielectric anisotropy due to the presence, in a proportion of at least 5 % by weight, of a p-(n-C4-C8-alkyl)-p'-cyanoazoxybenzene, the other component being a p-(n-C1-C8-alkyl)-p'-(n-C1-C8-alkoxy)azoxybenzene. The composition can be employed in electro-optical display devices of the so-called torsion-effect type.
