There is an element extending over at least the length of the surface to be measured, and the element is held under tension. It forms a reference surface with which the measured surface is compared. A distance transducer generates an output signal representing the distance between the two surfaces. The transducer is moved over the length of the tested surface. A carriage (20) is used, running on rollers (22). It has a yoke with two sensors monitoring its position relative to a reference wire (10). This wire consists of a bundle of carbon fibres under tension to give a straight reference line. There are sliders (14) running on tubes (8) lying parallel to the longitudinal motion of the carriage.
|
