The metal girder (2) is mounted on the abutments (4, 5) and the piers (6, 7). A lower slab (8) and then an upper slab (3) are placed in the region of the piers. The upper slab (3) receives a first precompression, creating in the girder tension forces acting against those resulting from the dead weight and loads of the bridge. Second upper slabs (3') are laid and attached to the girder, which reduce the tension forces of the first precompression. A second precompression state is applied to the upper slabs (3, 3'). The paving (9) is completed while maintaining the second prestressing state. <IMAGE>
