PURPOSE: To recover a liq. polymerization reaction diluent from an org. phase/aq. phase mixture contg. the diluent together with an alkali metal salt and water by using an integrated process which joins an extractive distillation step and an ion exchange step, and a reaction for the conversion of an alkali metal hydroxide. CONSTITUTION: The diluent is extracted from org. phase/aq. phase mixtures in extractive distillation column 12 using an extractant to form extracted mixtures. The substantial parts of an alkali metal in the extracted mixtures are converted to an alkali metal hydroxides to form exchanged mixtures. Water in the exchanged mixtures is removed and the alkali metal hydroxide is converted to an alkali metal salt of aminocarboxylic acid in fractional distillation column 30, and the alkali metal salt, etc., of aminocarboxylic acid are removed in the other third fractional distillation column to result the diluent suitable for recirculation. |
