Clamping device, partic. a machine parallel vice, comprises a fixed and a movable clamping part, and a quick operating spindle which is hollow and capable of being twisted into a nut on one of the clamping parts. Additionally, the clamping force is provided by a hydraulic cylinder and piston arrangement. - The piston, or a pressure rod adjusting it, is guided into the quick operating spindle, and comes in contact with a threaded drive component. A grip housing on the quick operating spindle adjusts the drive component, there being a torque coupling between housing and spindle. The grip housing is located on the quick operating spindle and cannot be displaced axially.
