A device for closing the end of a pipe consists of a valve in two parts which can be sepd. and which are on either side of a plane passing through the axis of an internal cylindrical surface of the valve which can be fitted round the outer surface of the pipe. The two parts can be tightened against one another on either side of the pipe. A plate is mounted so as to slide under the action of a screw mechanism and close the orifice of the valve. The device is for stopping the flow of a fluid escaping from the end of a pipe e.g. when the pipe has been accidentally broken. It is partic. adaptable to pipes of oil wells, but can be used in all industries in which fluids are conveyed in pipes. It allows rapid control of an escape at low or high press. and at all temps. without danger to the operators. It is installed without any of the components having to pass through the jet of fluid under press.
