Process for the separation of hydrocarbon isomers by selective adsorption and catalytic isomerisation of the effluent

Oil feedstocks comprising the isomeric forms of C5 and C6 saturated hydrocarbons are completely isomerised by separating the normal hydrocarbons from the non-normal hydrocarbons by a selective adsorption based on the molecular dimensions and by isomerising the normal hydrocarbons in contact with a catalyst of zeolite molecular sieve type. The process described relates to the use of three beds and the way of desorbing them for continuous operation. The branched hydrocarbons obtained have a higher octane number and can be used as fuels for internal combustion engines.
