PURPOSE:To improve the dispersibility and dispersion stability of a charge generating material, such as photoconductive pigment, by using specific polyvinyl acetal as the binder of a charge generating layer. CONSTITUTION:This photosensitive body is formed by laminating a charge transfer layer 2, the charge generating layer 3, and a surface protective layer 4 successively in this order on a conductive substrate 1. The charge generating layer 3 is formed by applying a charge generating coating liquid contg. polyvinyl acetal having <=13wt.% ratio of vinyl alcohol and the charge generating material on the charge transfer layer. The binder to be used for the charge generating layer 3 consists essentially of the polyvinyl acetal and is exemplified by, for example, polyvinyl butyral, polyvinyl acetoacetal, polyvinyl formal, etc., and is more particularly preferably the polyvinyl butyral.
