Two pulse generators (1, 2) are provided, one of which is driven with the sum and the other one of which is driven with the difference of two voltages derived from the measurement quantities of mains voltage and load current, in such a manner that the difference between the frequencies (f1, f2) of the pulse frequencies produced at the output of the generators is a measure of the electrical power. The aggregate pulses of a new pulse sequence which has been formed by the difference between the output pulses of the two generators (display 4) or the aggregate differences between the counts formed by counting the output pulses of the generators into counting mechanisms (counting mechanism 5) are used as a measure of the electrical energy. The circuit arrangement can be constructed digitally in many parts and is provided especially for use in an electronic electricity meter. <IMAGE>
