The mine conveyor running parallel to the cutting face has the lower strand of its conveyor belt ventilated over its complete length. Gases are extracted by circulation of air, reducing the danger of explosion. The base channel (3) furthest from the cutting face, has holes (4) through it so that air may enter. A flexible tube (5) connected to an exhaust fan (6) is connected to a selected hole. Further air can be admitted under the other parallel channel, by inserting wedges (7) underneath it.
