<p>The installation protects the seawater intake of a shore-based unit against the effects of surge and swell. It comprises a breakwater (4, 5) built across the mouth of the bay (1), an entrance (6) being left opposite the intake for vessels. The breakwater is of composite construction, the outer walls being perforated. This reduces the force of the water before it reaches the solid inner wall. A floating boom (7) is placed in line with intake (3) and opening, this being vee-shaped with the point towards the breakwater. Its arms (7a, 7b) are 2-3 meters diameter and is partly submerged and anchored (7c) to the seabed.</p> |
