Compression type tube coupling - preventing distortion when joining soft elastic polyethylene tubes

Two tubes of a soft elastic material such as polythene are connected by means of a coupling which comprises a bridge bushing with internal shoulders and through passage threaded on the outside to attach hand locknuts. A seal between the tube and the housing is effected by a ring sealed on one face by an elastice oval ring against the bushing and against a wedge shaped elastic packing ring between the ring and the tube. There is a bearing ring between the locknut and the packing ring. The inside surface of the packing ring is of rounded saw-toothed profile. An internal support tube fits on the inside of each tube end and has a flanged end which bears against the bridge bushing shoulder and, on the other side, against a clamp ring. The support tube is equipped with one or more rings at which the outside diameter increases. The ends of the tube are entirely protected from damage.
