In the board saw there are horizontal bearing supports (3) for the board-shaped workpiece (5). The bearing supports (3) are moved out of the path of the circular saw blade (9) in combination with the clamping operation if the circular saw blade (9) is located at the level of a bearing support (3) during the horizontal sawing. In order to now avoid the situation in which the bearing supports (3) are not displaced if the slide (7) is inadvertently not clamped in place on the guide beam (6), which could lead to the destruction of a bearing support (3) when the circular saw blade (9) plunges into the bearing surface (4), it is proposed to couple the circular saw (8) and the clamping device (12) to one another in such a way that plunging of the circular saw (8) is only possible if the slide (7) is clamped in place on the guide beam (6). To this end, coupling elements (16, 20) are provided between the clamping device (12) and the circular saw (8), by means of which coupling elements (16, 20) the displacement of the circular saw (8) towards the bearing surface (4) can be blocked. <IMAGE>
