Laminated material, used eps. for mfg. components such as plain bearings, involves the use of a substrate(a) which has a rough surface, or is a layer(a1) of Al or Al alloy with an active surface and a texture obtd. by brief heating at between 450 degrees C and the m.pt. of the Al or Al alloy. Substrate(a) is coated thermo-kinetically with a layer(b) of an alloy is suspension which has a tendency for segregation or demixing. The assembly (a,b) is then compressed mechanically. Substrate(a) is pref. Al: Cu, Sn; Fe; or their alloys; but esp. low carbon steel which is copper coated followed by a rough intermediate layer(a2) with a porous sintered structure of spheroidal particles based on Cu, e.g. brass or bronze, and esp. 90% Cu, 10% Sn. Alternatively, substrate(a) may only consist of layer(a2). The substrate(a) may alternatively be coated with, or consist entirely of layer(a1), esp. where low carbon steel(a) is clad on one or both sides with 99.5% Al or an Al alloy, 0.05-0.3 mm, esp. 0.2 mm thick to form layer (a;). Alloy(b) is pref. an anti-friction alloy contg. 75-94% Al, and 6-25% esp. 10-20% Pb. Used in mfg. of bearing using flame-, arc-, or plasma-spraying to apply Al-Pb layer(b). |
