A test probe is inserted through the cylinder liner of a Diesel engine. The probe is held in a sleeve (15) which is pushed through a conical bore in the liner. The sleeve is screwed to a holder (18) which projects through the liner and cylinder walls. The holder fits inside a socket (19) which screws into a threaded hole (17) in the liner. The holder has a shoulder on the end on which a compression ring (23) sits. A securing nut (24) screws onto the socket. It compresses a plate spring (25) which presses on the compression ring (23) to force the holder into the liner. This forces the sleeve forward to make a tight press fit in the hole in the liner.
