<p>Weldin plant, using a power supply for joining workpieces in a number of steps, includes a meter which monitors the power used in one step. The monitor is linked to a controller for adjusting the power used in another step. The plant is pref. a flash butt welder, where the power used in the flash controls the force used in upsetting, esp. via a direct ratio. Appts. pref. includes electrical- and mechanical- power supplies; electronic and hydraulic circuits; and a recorder showing the integrated electric power w.r.t. time. The electronic appts. pref. uses logic, memory and comparator circuits so the amt. of electric power in the flash directly controls upsetting force in a completely automatic cycle. Used to join the tail end of one steel strip to the front end of the next strip to obtain continuous strip for cold rolling and heat treatment. The invention ensures that completely reliable welds are obtd. in large scale mass prodn.</p> |
