In pad dyeing or printing materials wholly (partially) of polyester or polyamide fibres or filaments using aq. baths or ink pastes of disperse dyes with application of liq. methylene chloride (I) and opt. drying ti fix the dyes, the improvement comprises applying (I) to the material by spraying, foaming, foularding, using rollers or brushes or by soaking. Pref. (I) is applied by foularding, using rollers or the material soaked with (I) may be left with sheets (im)permeable to (I) interposed between superposed material portions to prevent spotting or staining particularly for multicolour dyeing, or printing. Fastness and intensity of dyeing or printing is equivalent to or better than that obtd. by expensive processes such as thermosel or high temp. processes.
