New herbicidal agents contain cpds. of formula (I) where Y = halogen, 1-4C alkyl and/or CF3; n = 1 or 2; Z = -COR1, -CH2OR2 or -CN; R1 = OH, 1-12C alkoxy, 5-6C cycloalkoxy, benzyloxy, (1-4C alkoxy)-(2-4C alkoxy), (1-4C alkylthio)-(2-4C alkoxy), halo-(2-4C alkoxy), di(1-4c alkyl)amino-(2,4C alkoxy), hydroxy-(2-4C alkoxy), phenoxy-(2-4C alkoxy) (phenyl residue opt. mono- or disubstd. by Cl and/or CH3), CH3-(2-4C alkoxy), allyloxy, propargyloxy, (opt. substd. in 1-position by 1-4C alkyl), -NH2, -NHNH2, 1-4C alkylamino, di(1-4C alkyl)-amino, anilino (opt. mono- or disubstd. by halogen), or -0 circled negative Cat circled positive = cation of organic or inorganic base); R2 = H, 1-6C alkanoyl, 3-4C alkenoyl, cyclopropanecarbonyl, benzoyl (opt. mono- or disubstd. by NO2 and/or halogen), (1-4c alkyl)carbamoyl or di(1-4C alkyl)carbamoyl. (I) have good herbicidal activity, esp. against grasses. On account of their selectivity, (I) can be used against weeds in many (esp. dicotyledonous) crops. In an example, ethyl 2- 4-(4-chlorophenoxymethyl)-phenoxy propionate applied are-emergence at a rate of 0.6 kg/ha. gives 100% control of Lolium and Echinochloa, >97.5% control of Setaria, 95-97.5% control of Alopearus, and 65-75% control of Avena. |
