Hydrophilic porous fibres prodn. - contg. a finely divided solid to stabilise the pores

Porous synthetic resin fibres and filaments are made contg. 0.01-5 wt.% (on polymer) of non-elutable solids with a small particle size. Pref. the solid additive has a particle size of 5-500 nm and a refractive index which is virtually the same as that of the polymer. The non-elutable solids stabilize the pores in the fibres under conditions (e.g. during steam- and fixing processes in tension frames) to which known porous fibres are unstable. The resulting fibres have a stable porous structure and good hydrophilic properties.
