A conveying member (12) is arranged on a stand and delivers a pack (1) to a foil-dispensing station (3a). The conveying member (12) has sliding units (14) formed on a chain (13). A transparent foil (3) is wound up to form a foil roll (3a). A roller (81) is followed by a conveying member consisting of a heat-resistant thin belt. A weighting-roller arrangement is provided on the top side of the conveying member, in order to increase the adhesion between the upper surface of the pack and the upper surface of the conveyor belt. There is, furthermore, a drawing mechanism (40) which clamps the foil (3) between belts (41). The foil parts running between the individual packs (1) are severed by cutting motors (56, 57). A vacuum pump (68) connected to the housing ensures that the foil ends (3b, 3c) are wrapped round onto the lower surface of the pack. The foil ends are welded together by means of a heating conveyor member. The length of the foil can thus be adjusted freely according to the length of the pack, so that packs of varying size can be processed. <IMAGE>
