摘要 1519331 Gas discharge display panels MITSUBISHI DENKI KK 26 June 1975 [8 July 1974] 27186/75 Heading H1D [Also in Division G5] A gas discharge display panel comprises a discharge gap defining matrix array of main electrodes 9-16, 17-24 having disposed adjacent and parallel thereto respective auxiliary electrodes 25-32, 33-40 provided with respective series resistors R, the electrodes being arranged on respeotive substrates la, 1b, with the A.C. sustaining drive voltage being applied to the main electrodes through common lines 55, 56 and the turn-on and turn-off pulses being applied to the auxiliary electrodes through resistors R and common lines 53, 54, and wherein switching electrodes 41-46, 47-52 are selectively connected to voltage source Vt such that the full turn-on or turn-off voltage is applied to selected auxiliary electrodes to, in turn, initiate selected discharges between main electrodes. Parts of the switching electrodes, which are located in a different area to the main display area, are covered with dielectric 100 (shown as X in the figure), the arrangement being such that dischargeable positions between the auxiliary electrodes and the switching electrodes are, as shown in Fig. 5, selected according to the binary system and then the state of the switches Sc can be represented by a binary number. With the switches in the positions shown a discharge will occur between the switching electrodes and every auxiliary electrode except 33-thus these discharges produce a voltage drop, corresponding to the resistors R, on each auxiliary electrode except 33, to which is thus applied the full turn-on, or turnoff, pulse. The other set of auxiliary electrodes are similarly addressed so that the full turn-on, or turn-off, pulse is applied to only selected such electrodes. The resistors R may be formed on the substrate by vacuum deposition, e.g. of chromium, or by thick membrane coating. The panel may have a first set of switching electrodes for selecting a character position and a second set of switching electrodes for selecting a character pattern, Fig. 7 (not shown). In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 8, gaps are provided in the auxiliary electrodes between the display part and the switching part, the gaps maintaining electrical insulation while permitting discharges thereacross. The opposite ends of the auxiliary electrodes are connected through resistors r to the common electrodes 55, 56 connected to the main electrodes. With this arrangement a more stable operation is achieved since the voltage at the cross-over points can be clamped to the A.C. sustaining drive voltage. The parts of the auxiliary electrodes on either side of the gaps may be on the same or on opposite glass substrates. In a modification, Fig. 10 (not shown), the main electrodes are dispensed with and the socalled auxiliary electrodes take over their function.
