Method for extracting fatty acid (I) and other cpds. from lipid extracts comrpises first neutralising and saponifying the extract in the liq. phase with >=1 monovalent metal hydroxide. The resulting mixt. (contg. soaps of (I) and the non-saponifiable components (II)) is then distilled at a temp. and pressure at which the soaps remain liq. A distillate consisting of (II) is taken off, leaving a anhydrous residue contg. mainly the soaps, from which (I) are then recovered, pref. by treatment with strong acid. The first step is pref. at high temp. and pressure (esp. 5-20 bars) in presence of water, and the hydroxide is chosen to give a eutectic soap mixt. of min. m.pt. Method is useful for processing extracts obtd. from microorganisms by solvent extraction, esp. from yeasts grown on hydrocarbons (I) are obtd. free from (II) and other cpds. e.g. amino-alcohols, alcohols etc. can also be recovered.
|
