1518421 Inflatable mechanically articulated orthopaedic appliance INSTITUT NATIONAL DE LA SANTE ET DE LA RECHERCHE MEDICALE INSERM 20 Jan 1976 [24 Jan 1975] 02198/76 Heading A5R An inflatable, mechanically articulated orthopaedic appliance which enables disabled people to stand or sit without its deflation comprises a series of vertically spaced, flexible, inextensible sheets 4, 5g, 6g that support vertical, inflatable tubes 3 and which are provided with mechanical articulation running the length of the appliance. The sheets are wrapped around the patient and connected at their ends, by vertically extending lateral tabs, e.g. 9a, 9b that afford support for connecting pipes, e.g. 10a, 11, 10b, that connect the inflatable tubes of adjacent sheets. The articulation is provided by hinges 12, 13, or motorized articulators, Figs. 4, 13 (not shown), that are connected by arcuate bars 14, 15, Fig. 3 and vertical, optionally telescopic pins, e.g. 18, that are pinched between the tubes when the latter are inflated. A footwear extension 24 may be provided, and the sheets may be connected at their ends in numerous ways.
