' An electric timepiece comprises an electronic circuit ER which produces periodic signals of a predetermined frequency and an electro-chemical transducer for driving a time indicating device, the transducer being controlled by the signals and including an armature 1 which oscillates between two limiting stops 13, 14 at the frequency of the signals to supply electric impacts to the teeth 15 of a seconds wheel S. A crystal controlled oscillator B produces a high frequency signal which is fed to a scaler D where it is divided down to a frequency of one Hz. The armature 1 is mounted on a spindle 2 and has an extension which supports a coil 10 movable in the gap between opposed, U-shaped permanent magnets each having pole pieces 11a, 11b. The coil is connected to the circuit ER via the spindle 2 and a pair of spiral springs, one of which 7 is shown. The signals fed to the coil cause it to oscillate and pallets 1a, 1 therefore alternately strike the teeth 15 of the seconds wheel S to intermittently rotate the wheel. An arm 9 is mounted on the spindle 2 and its engagement with the stops 13, 14 limits the swing of the armature. A differentiating circuit may be added to the circuit ER to supply pairs of pulses of opposed polarity thus accelerating the withdrawal of the pallet la from between the teeth to prevent it being struck by a following tooth as the wheel S rotates. A similar effect may be achieved by alternatively cutting an additional surface on the pallet 1a at right angles to its impact applying surface. |
