Process comprises preparing a homogeneous mixt. of an inorganic powder with an organic binder and a mineral additive to control the pore dimensions. The mixt. can form a solid or pasty skin, and is applied on a perforated support of the required mechanical strength. The holes in the support have areas greater than those of the pores of the filter being prepd. The coated support is compressed, and heated to eliminate the organic substances. Typically, the support is a sheet of Ni or stainless steel and the filter mass is constituted by porous Ni. Organic binder is e.g. of methacrylate-acrylate copolymer or substd. polystyrene. The filters are suitable for e.g. filtration of gases and liquids, ultrafiltration, porous barriers for sepg. gases by diffusion, accumulator electrodes, dialysis, e.g. in artificial kidneys and catalysis. Very thin filters (<0.2mm) can be prepd. with good flexibility and high permeability. |
