1527638 Oil-based suspensions of niclosamide BAYER AG 14 Dec 1976 [20 Dec 1975] 52104/76 Heading A5B Orally administrable pharmaceutical or veterinary anthelmintic compositions consist of an oil-based suspension of niclosamide (2-hydroxy-5-2'-dichloro-4'-nitrobenzanilide) or a salt thereof, in which at least 50% of the particles of niclosamide or its salt are smaller than 2Á. The active compound may be anhydrous or contain water of crystallisation, and may be in the form of its piperazine (also anthelmintically active) salt. The composition may contain a surface-active agent (e.g. lecithin or a polyoxyethylated sorbitan monolaurate, or other anionic, cationic, ampholytic or non-ionic surfactants. Suitable oils are liquid paraffin and/or sesame oil. The compositions are prepared by grinding the niclosamide in the oil until the required particle size is reached, and optionally adding further oil and/or a surface active agent. The compositions are said to have improved storage stability and anthelmintic activity. |
