The method is intended for those thread-rolling machines which have a stationary rolling element and a rolling element driven by a rotatable member. The movement of the rotatable member is divided into a predetermined number of movement steps. This number is in a predetermined ratio to a number of pulses emitted by a pulse transmitter during the rolling operation. This ratio is such that a predetermined upper and lower tolerance limit for the number actually emitted during the rolling operation is set and stored. During a screw-thread rolling operation, the emitted number of pulses is counted and is compared with the upper and lower tolerance limit. If the number of emitted pulses is below the lower tolerance limit and above the upper tolerance limit, the incorrectly rolled product is separated from the correctly rolled products and is conveyed away. The indication and sorting out of incorrectly rolled products thus takes place automatically.
