The gas-cooled high temp. reactor with multiple loop cooling system is designed so that in the event of failure of a coaxial gas duct, selective closing off of primary loops is possible so that primary loop components may be serviced. In the vicinity of each horizontal opening in the circular chamber formed between the graphite reflector and the concrete, is positioned a hinged flap-valve operated from outside the concrete vessel.
