1514129 Firing pin satefy mechanism SIG SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GES 8 June 1976 [27 June 1975] 17349/76 Heading F3C The cartridge of an automatic pistol is fired by a firing pin 17 normally prevented from moving by a first spring-biased safety bolt 18. A second safety bolt 19 is spring-biased out of engagement with the pin 17, but is arranged in parallel with the first bolt 18 so as to engage and lock the firing pin 17 if the first bolt is jolted out of engagement unintentionally by an impact. If the pistol is dropped so that the impact forces jolt the first bolt 18 out of engagement, then the same forces automatically jolt the second bolt 19 into engagement. Additionally, the hammer 12 and firing pin carrying slide 16 are mounted so that any jolted sliding of the slide 16 brings the slide and not the firing pin 17 into contact with the hammer. In normal operation with the hammer 12 cocked and held by a catch lever 13 actuation of the trigger 14 moves the trigger arm 20 to push a release lever 21, which moves the first safety bolt 18 to a release position. Then arm 20 frees the catch lever 13 to release the hammer 12, which strikes the firing pin 17 to ignite the priming cap of the cartridge in the barrel 15. The released gases push the slide 16 towards the hammer 12 to eject the spent cartridge case and cock the firing mechanism. Spring return of the slide loads a new cartridge from a magazine (not further disclosed). The barrel 15 is a press fit in the pistol casing. |
