<p>Packaging material comprises a paper substrate to which is applied a layer of thermoplastic material, pref. low-density polyethylene, from which extend drawn fibres or fibre tufts. A network of continuous or coherent fibres is disposed in the paper substrate and/or between the substrate and the thermoplastic layer, and pref. consists of glass fibres. A second layer of polyethylene film is pref. applied to the substrate, with the fibres or fibre tufts disposed between substrate and second layer. The packaging material may be used as a bag or envelope by turning two rectangular pieces of the material with the plush surface inwards, and joining the pieces together on three sides. Incorporation of the fibre network increases the strength and thickness of the material.</p> |
