The transformers are held in holding pieces which are conveyed and transported from the loading station to the assembly station and from there to the measuring station. The conveying mechanism is driven stepwise in a constant direction along an endless conveyor track. It carries the holding pieces in a row behind one another and spaced at regular intervals from one another. The contact part movers relative to the holding pieces. In the direction of conveyance the loading station is followed by the assembly station which is followed, in turn, by the measuring station, each at an interval corresponding to the spacing between two holding pieces.
