Joint withstanding high temp. is made between guide vanes or blades directing the flow of gases or liqs. The blades are located with some clearance, between a groove on the outer dia. of an inner ring (a), and a groove in the bore of an outer ring (b); and are then fixed radially by a shoulder ring (c) or an insert (d) in ring (b). Ring (a) may be a nose cone, and ring (b) a combustion chamber. Either ring (a) or (b) may form a drive shaft fitted with rotor blades. The individual parts are pref. made of the same or different non-metallic materials, e.g. ceramics, composite or laminated material based on ceramics, cermets, or glass-ceramics. They are used e.g. in gas turbines, or stirrers or pump rotors for molten metal or other aggressive media. Metals are restricted to a max. service temp. of ca. 950 degrees C., but the non-metallic materials can be used up to 1400 degrees C. The joint or joints reduce the thermal stresses created in the blades by the hot gas or liq., and also reduce the intrinsic stresses arising during mfr.
|
