The engine works on the four stroke principal and consists of a hollow cylindrical working cylinder with a centre boring (59) to accommodate a sliding piston rod (2). Disc shaped pistons (5, 6) with sealing rings are fitted to each end of the connecting rod to reciprocate in annular recesses (8, 10) formed in the working cylinder. The annular recesses are each provided with inlet and exhaust valves to form two horizontally opposed combustion chambers (7, 9). The connecting rod reciprocating action is transferred to a shaft (29) which passes through a suitable boring (62, 36) in the working cylinder. The shaft has a pivot arm (30) whose free end meshes with a second pivot arm (41) turning a gear wheel (32) via an eccentric peg.
