Contacts along the edge of a printed circuit board are tinned by dipping in a tin bath, where the board edge is aligned against a strip (a) of material which can be tinned, so the surfaces of the edge contacts are in the same plane as the surface of strip (a); and after dipping the strip and the board edge in the bath, and excess in drains off the contacts via strip (a). The boards are pref. fitted with electronic components and soldered before tinning the edge contacts. The pref. appts. consists of an assembly of swivel frames driven by hydraulic or pneumatic work cylinders, one frame being fitted with a Ti or Ti alloy rail on which a steep strip (a) is fixed; and the board edge and trip (a) are in a vertical position when the bath, the strip leaving the bath after the board. A simple but effective process and appts. for tinning edge contacts to obtain a smooth surface without blobs of tin, so accurate dimensions are maintained.
|
