A device is used for pivotally retaining a windscreen wiper blade assembly on the hooked end (7a) of an oscillating upper arm (7). It comprises a pivoted plastics boss (11) having a pair of projecting cheeks (10) provided with projections (13), the hooked end (7a) being resiliently gripped between the boss (11) and the projections (13); arms (7) of smaller thickness are deformed at the end (7a) to compensate for it. The deformation of the end (7a) is towards the outside of the hook and is of the centre of the hook only so that the effective thickness is sufficient for the resilient gapping. The stump (6) is pivoted at its ends to secondary stirrups further pivoted to a blade support and tertiary stirrups pivoted at both ends to the blade support.
