Transformer with main and tapping windings - has reversing switch for connecting extension windings in series or opposition using thyristors

A transformer which consists of a main winding and a setting winding with tappings. The setting winding can be used for various combinations of switching. This eliminates the use of any drive mechanism for selecting the appropriate tappings. The system uses semiconductor switches thereby reducing space required, and the maintenance due to the absence of any lubricating systems. The systems contains a reversing switch (3) for reversing the setting or tapping winding (2) in extension or opposition to the main windings (1). The tapping points of the setting winding are connected to the star point (4) of the transformer. The semiconductor elements used for triggering are controlled by the voltage. The switching circuit consists of two thyristors connected back to back.
