The electronic system for determining the penetration properties and velocity of projectiles is based on the detection of the electrostatic charge accumulated by the missiles during their flight. The detector consists of a number of vertical electrodes (1') set in line at right-angles to the direction of travel of the projectiles and in the plane of the target area. The electrodes of electrically-conducting material are earthed at one end via a common resistor (2). The displacement currents induced in the electrodes due to the changes in electric field due to the charged projectiles passing them, are detected in an analyser (3). The electrode assembly may also take the form of spaced metal frames between which the speed of flight may be determined.
|
