Contractile or shrink-fit sheathing is prefabricated in a distended state maintained by adhesion of a rigid support which may be readily removed or broken to release the sheathing. It is esp. used for mfr of straight or branched tubular sheathing for insulating or sealing electrical terminals or junctions, etc. It is suitable for prestressed sheathing made of polychloroprene- or ethylene-propylene based rubbers and opt. precoated internally with a sealing mastic. The support simplifies storage and fitting of the sheathing which may be applied rapidly or progressively to the item being sheathed.
