1468069 Valves TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc 18 Dec 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 54733/74 Heading F2V In a thermostatically controlled valve for use in a car exhaust emission control system a bimetallic disc 19 seats on an O-ring 17 in the closed condition of the valve and a spider spring 23 leads the disc towards the seat. The disc changes from the open to the closed condition, and vice versa, with a snap action, the edge of the disc abutting an annular shoulder 27 in the open condition and being spaced from it in the closed condition. The valve body comprises a thermosetting resin portion 7 and a brass heatconducting portion 31 on which is provided a screw-threaded boss 33 for mounting the valve on the car engine. In a modification, radial notches (45), Fig. 4 (not shown), are provided in the disc which no longer flexes with a snap action but changes curvature gradually to give a smooth control of flow through the valve. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the O-ring seat is dispensed with and the disc carries a resilient pad (73) which seats on a shoulder (71) around an outlet passage (63). Bias is provided by a wavy spring.
|
