In a press, the internal space of the container (1) is divided by a shroud-shaped skin (8) into a pressure space (11) and a compression space (10). The pressure space (11) is provided with an inlet arrangement (13, 14) for a pressure fluid, and the compression space (10) is provided with an arrangement for withdrawing liquid (16, 17). To keep the solids away from the openings (17) with which the compression space (10) is provided, and to prevent blocking of these openings, the openings are covered with a filter material (50). This measure increases the collecting area of each opening and has the result that the time required for separating the liquid from the solids is reduced. The apparatus is used mainly for extracting the juice of fruits. <IMAGE>
