<p>1507572 Plastics bottles A R RAUSING 18 Dec 1975 [3 Jan 1975] 51915/75 Heading B8D [Also in Division B5] A disposable bottle is made by wrapping and lap-seaming a heat-shrinkable foamed plastics blank 3 to form a cylindrical tube, placing the tube over a mandrel 18 having a tapered or necked end 6, heat-shrinking the end portion of the tube located about the necked end into bottle-shaped conformity therewith, and sealing a closure disc 14 to a flange 12<SP>1</SP> formed on the other end portion of the tube. The blank comprises two heat-shrinkable layers 1 of foamed plastics, e.g. polystyrene, and a plastics, metal foil, glass, or paper reinforcing intermediate layer extending only over the intermediate part of the width of the blank forming the cylindrical bottle body portion 11. An impermeable layer 21 of polyvinylidene chloride or an acrylonitrile plastics is also provided over one side of the blank. The inturned flange 12<SP>1</SP> is formed by inserting a collapsible mandrel or former 13 into the open end of the tube after the latter has been removed from the mandrel 6, and heating the lower end of the tube so that it folds inwardly on shrinking. The former 13 is then collapsed and removed through the opening defined by the inturned flange. The disc 14, which may be formed of a laminate having the same construction as that of the intermediate portion of the blank 3, is heat-sealed or adhered to the flange. The rim 10 of the bottle is beaded and rendered planar by pressing a heated-tool 16 against the rim. The bottle is completed by a cap 19 attached to the bead and heat-sealed.</p> |
