1507081 Pneumatic tyres PNEUMATIQUES CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE ET PLASTIQUES KLEBER-COLOMBES 19 May 1975 [24 May 1974] 21300/75 Heading B7C A pneumatic tyre is provided in each sidewall with an annular pocket 20 containing cellular material which supports the tyre in the event of deflation. The radial height h of each pocket is preferably between 0À4 H and 0À7 H, where H is the sectional height of the tyre. Preferably the material is adhered to the walls of the pockets. The material may be an elastomer which is made cellular by break down of a foaming agent during vulcanization of the tyre. In the example quoted in the Specification the elastomer is natural rubber or butadiene styrene rubber. An alternative elastomer is ethylenepropylene-diene terpolymer. The partitions 18 may be such that inflation air in cavity 15 can diffuse through the partitions into the pockets to equalize the pressures in the pockets and cavity. The tyre may include one or two carcass plies. As shown, there is one ply 21, and the ends 21 1 may overlap beneath the tread or may terminate in the bead regions (Fig. 3). Where there are two carcass plies, they may each pass from the crown to the beads, one ply passing along the partitions 17 and the other passing along partitions 18. The ply or plies may include radial cords, or the parallel cords of one ply may cross the cords of the other ply. Flexible, fabric, reinforcing strips 24, 25 or 30 (Fig. 3) may be adhered to the cellular material and the walls of the pockets. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the lower portions of the pockets are positioned between apex strips (27) and chafers (28). The bead cores may be made of filaments of glass fibre or an aromatic polyamide fibre. |
